Company History
The Flathead Farm Mutual Insurance Company was founded in 1907 to meet the needs of the rural population of Flathead and surrounding counties. Chet Ellingson became manager in 1961. At that time there were 779 members. Annual premiums paid by members totaled $14,270. Company assets were $96,025. Chet Ellingson retired in 2001.
Today’s Flathead Farm Mutual insurers over 5300 members in Western Montana. Written premium was $4,380,000 in 2005. Total assets now exceed $7,000,000. A strong reinsurance program assures that the company remains financially strong and would not be affected by large losses.

To provide a stable and economical insurance product for the residential, farm, and rural property owners in Western Montana.
To underwrite carefully and offer the broadest coverage practical for the class of risk that is written.
To handle claims promptly and fairly.
To grow our membership while keeping a strong financial base.
